Is Lindsay Guilty of A Criminal Act or Did She Have Psychosis?
Lindsay Clancy, Lindsay Clancy, Lindsay Clancy. Her name seems to be on many people’s lips and on their minds. I can’t seem to get her profile out of my head when watching some of the trial. She is the mother that strangled her three young children and then jumped out of a window trying to commit suicide all in the matter of 45 minutes. Support for her is overwhelming and also very surprising–stupefying..
Watching the trial today and witness testimony, she was diagnosed with Bipolar 2, a lighter form of manic depression, not psychosis. Let’s hope the jury judges accordingly. Every time I see a young child in an ad on social media, I think of how could Lindsay take a living, breathing, smiling, babbling, life and snuff it out. Was she just faking it in all of her family photos? Perhaps, the depression took over but the crime she committed is not warranted. I am not so sure that it was postpartum depression as that happens closer to the birth of a child.
Wide, Misdirected Support for a Woman Who Strangled Her Children
The women supporting her, perhaps are not getting full details on the incident and are projecting their feelings of frustration as mothers who have given up their dreams to support and raise their children. Feminists blame it all on the man, and many conspiracy theories went for Patrick Clancy’s jugular, making up all sort of tales of him committing the crime, when Lindsay clearly admitted to it.
Even though the judge and others felt that Catholicism, the faith that Lindsay grew up in, should not be part of the trial, it’s interesting that witnesses need to place their hand on and swear on the Bible.
What Does Mortal Sin Have to Do With It?
Catholicism teaches that killing and also suicide is a mortal sin. Mortal sin is a serious sin, and separates oneself from God by your actions. If confessed to a priest during the Sacrament of Reconciliation, one may receive absolution if the sin was confessed with true sorrow. In the case of suicide, there would not be a chance to confess obviously. If not confessed, the soul’s journey leads to eternal damnation. In court, I didn’t see any remorse from Lindsay, even though she did put on a show for the jury when she broke down and cried. To me it seemed fake.
What she did was brutal, but so is abortion. Women and men are often too quick to eliminate the “problem” so life can continue for them as is. We are living in a world where life is expendable and abortion is even celebrated. Abortion is now allowed up to birth in a handful of states. Now throngs of women are supporting Lindsay because they “have been in her place.” What does that say about how women and others really feel? Yes, raising children is confining, it’s hard, but also a great blessing. It needs to be one of life’s greatest missions.
Is Motherhood Becoming Extinct?
Author, Danielle Crittenden, says there is no argument for children in the modern woman’s eyes. Instagram is filled with single women “living their best life” traveling solo in a camper van or to exotic vacation destinations, all finely curated for social media to gain likes. They are creating the life they want. Woman are making their own money and making their own decisions. To them, men may just be looked at as someone to “take care of.”
Many women are not getting married, and if they do get married they are foregoing having children because children are considered a burden on the easy-going, exciting lifestyle that plasters social media pages. Plus, they are expensive to raise. Many times, nurturing dogs take the place of raising and nurturing children.
Who wants to change diapers, wipe up spit up and spilled milk, listen to crying, chauffeur the kids around, only be a mom. Being a mother is the most important job in the world! Our future depends on it. It is a natural progression in society. In Lindsay’s case, my personal opinion is that she didn’t want to go back to work, and I don’t think her husband would not expect her to if she didn’t want to. Somehow she felt trapped and decided to end it but it didn’t work out for her.
Who Is the Real Victim in This Case?
We can speculate all day long but now is decision time by the jury. In this trial, the moral issue of taking the life of three, innocent, beautiful children should be punished to the full extent of the law. Regardless of the depression, it was a criminal act that, I feel, her conscience knew was wrong. I believed she planned it, otherwise why would she take Dawson to the basement first, then Cora, and finally Callan. Her conviction should be a deterrent for all those mothers that even get the slightest notion to do the same thing. If she is not convicted, what kind of precedent will be set in the lives of all frustrated, confused mothers? Then where will we stand as a country and nation. God will be the ultimate judge.
The real victims in this case are the children. The names that should be in the front of our minds are Cora, Dawson, and Callan…. Cora, Dawson, and Callan,….Cora, Dawson, and Callan……
